Obituary published on Legacy.com by DuPage Cremations, Ltd. and Memorial Chapel on Jul. 22, 2024.
Robert Joseph Treinen, 80, passed away on July 18th, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at his family home. Born on January 18th, 1944 in Springfield, Ohio, Robert was the third born of Robert S. Treinen and Honor Pauline Smallwood's six children.
Robert, or you may have known him as "Bob," "Bobby," "Robby," or even "Rocky," was raised in Dayton, Ohio, where he was a linebacker for the Batawat Walter Stebbins Indians. He was a recipient of the Varsity "S", the school's recognition of athletic achievement, a feat of which he was proud. He then went on to receive his bachelor's degree from Miami University Ohio. Upon graduation, he started his career touching the lives of students as a business teacher at Madison High School in Middletown, Ohio; afterward, he transitioned into the world of business. He retired as a Vice President of Manufacturing at E.D. Etnyre.
Robert was the epitome of the American Dream, which he so strongly believed in. He took great pride in his work. While he loved his career, the one thing he loved even more was his family. To Robert, the most important thing in the world was that his family was safe, happy, healthy, and cared for. There was no other priority.
When Robert was a teenager, he'd been visiting his brother in the hospital when he fell in love with the nursing student who was caring for him: Tari Turpin. Robert and Tari were joined in matrimony on September 15, 1962. Together they raised three children and at the time of his passing, he was proud to be the grandfather of 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He loved his home in Naperville deeply, especially because of how close he was to the water. Some of his happiest memories took place on the countless boats he owned throughout his life. When in doubt, you could find him watching football at his lakehouse. Robert was the Chicago Bears' biggest fan. Among his other loves were Star Trek, country music, reading novels, police shows, and watching old westerns.
Robert always had a story to tell, usually with plenty of laughter to follow. He was known for his advice, his children were known to turn to him whenever they encountered a problem, and he would be there every time with a smile and a helping hand. Robert lived a full life and will live on in the hearts of many.
Robert is survived by his wife, Tari; his daughter, Traci; his two sons, Robert Jr. (Annette) and Eric (Pamela); his brother, James (Bitsy); his sisters, Judith (James) Huffman, Jacquline Treinen, Peggy (James) Ulrich, and Betty (Steve) Heneghan; and dozens of loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends all of whom loved him and heavily grieve his loss. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Per Robert's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Those who would like a space to celebrate Robert's life are encouraged by his family to share their favorite photos, stories, or memories of Robert on his personal Facebook page.
