Robert Treinen Obituary
On Thursday May 23rd, Robert Treinen passed away in Sun City West, AZ. Robert (Bob) was born in Alton, IA on October 6, 1936, to Clarence and Florence (Kontz) Treinen. He graduated from Kingsley High School in 1954. He attended Iowa State University and graduated from the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1960. He was a member of Phi Zeta Scholastic Honorary Society. On July 22, 1961, he married Sharon Diemer. He started a general veterinary practice in Ackley, IA. To this union, three children were born, Ann, Carol, and David. While in Ackley, Bob served on the Town Council for multiple years and initiated the ambulance service plus EMT training. He was a charter member of a new Jaycee Club and the first runner-up in the State Speak Up contest. He was also a charter member of the Ackley Housing and a member of the board. Bob (Doc) retired from practice in 1992 and became a supervisor, Veterinary Medical Office, for the USDA until 2000. Bob and Sharon enjoyed splitting time between Iowa and Arizona. They "had the best of both worlds." They enjoyed traveling the United States and other worldly destinations. Bob enjoyed golf, reading, crossword puzzles, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune. Bob was known for his classic one-liners, no-nonsense, pragmatic approach to things. He had a quiet literary side and was known for writing poems for friends celebrating special occasions.
Bob is survived by his wife Sharon, of Ankeny, IA, Ann Treinen of Omaha, NE, Dr. Carol Treinen (Roland Bergman) of San Carlos, CA, and David and Karen (Jones) Treinen of Ankeny, Justin and Elizabeth (Treinen) Scharf of Grimes, IA, and Elliott Treinen of Tempe, AZ. He also survived by his great-grandchildren Wyatt and Cora Scharf of Grimes, IA.
The family will schedule a memorial service at a later date.
Memorials can be sent to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, Food Bank of Iowa, or Ankeny Kirkendall Public Library.
