Robert "Bobby" Gene Vann, born on October 29, 1957, went to be with the Lord on April 23, 2024, surrounded by family and friends, after a courageous battle with cancer. Throughout his journey, Bobby exhibited extraordinary strength and resilience, earning him the title of a true warrior. Even amidst the challenges of his treatment, his smile remained a beacon of hope and positivity, inspiring those around him.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Milas and Lillian Vann, as well as his brother, George (Sue) Vann. He is survived by his devoted wife, Diana Vann; loving children and grandchildren; sister, Donna Vann; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends, whom he held close to his heart.

Bobby found his soulmate in his best friend, Diana, whom he married on December 2, 1977. Together, they embarked on a journey that blossomed into a beautiful life, blessed with three children: Christina (Jimmy) Larson, Tonya (Jimmy) Day, and Thomas (Jayee) Vann. Bobby and Diana's love and dedication to each other were reflected in the warmth and happiness of their family life. Their home was filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

Bobby's greatest joy came from being a husband, father and papaw. He adored his grandchildren: Robert Day, Brenden (Aliyah) Larson, Brooklyn Day, Sydney Larson, Aaron Day, and Adriana. His love for them knew no bounds, including his fur babies: Roscoe, Ruby, Rocky, and Coco. Family was Bobby's anchor, his source of strength and inspiration.

Bobby and Diana's home was more than just a place to reside-it was a sanctuary of warmth and hospitality, where friends, family, and even furry companions were always welcome. Their doors were open to all, and their hearts even more so. Bobby's welcoming nature and boundless affection earned him the endearing title of "Papaw" not just from his grandchildren, but from all who knew him. His paternal presence extended beyond blood ties, embracing everyone who entered his home with the same love and care he bestowed upon his own family. Whether he was offering words of wisdom, sharing a joke, or simply lending a listening ear, Bobby made everyone feel valued and cherished.

He was a true leader, known for his unwavering dedication and tireless work ethic. Bobby's entrepreneurial spirit and hard work was evident from a young age. He began working at the age of 11. As he got older, he built a successful career with United Van Lines, logging over a million miles moving families across the country. In 1989, Bobby & Diana founded their own company, American Way Van & Storage, which has been a trusted agent for National Van Lines for nearly 4 decades. He served as Chairman of National's Agency Council for over 20 years, earning respect, recognition, and numerous accolades. Bobby's ventures extended to several other companies fostering additional success through Country Wide Moving & Storage and the Dayton Technology Group.

Bobby was a rare gem, known for his infectious laughter and his ability to find humor in every situation. He approached life with a lightheartedness that touched everyone around him. His mission was to spread joy and put a smile on the faces of those he encountered. Bobby had a heart of gold and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, embodying the true spirit of generosity and compassion.

Though Bobby may no longer be with us, his legacy of love, strength, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered, forever cherished as a beloved husband, father, papaw, and true friend. May he rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and admired by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

We would like to send a special thank you to the care and compassion that Hospice of Dayton provided to Bobby and our family over the last few days of his life.
