Robert Eugene "Rob or Robbie" Vass Jr.

1948 - 2024

Robert Eugene Vass Jr., 'Rob' or 'Robbie' to his family and friends, of Madison County, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, after a short illness. Rob was born in Hinton, WVA on November 19, 1948. His late parents are WW2 Army Veteran Robert Eugene Vass, Sr., and Audrey Vass (ne'e Ward) relocated to Madison County, VA when Robbie was only a toddler. His family soon opened a gas filling /automobile service station, and added two more daughters.

Rob grew up in Madison County and loved all of the things that the country would offer a young boy growing up. He was an avid hunter a fisherman, and as a child he was even known to trade his uncle the squirrels he had bagged for 22 cal. rifle shells. Rob was fondly known for his red hair, height of (6'7"), 16.5 shoe size, as well as his good-natured quick teasing wit. He'll be remembered for his time on both the basketball and football teams of Madison County High School, his voluntary service to his country during the Vietnam War, and his exceptional ability as a master carpenter and home builder.

He was very well liked by pretty much anyone that he met. His kindness, integrity, and intelligence served as an inspiration to his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Vass, his daughter, Jolene Vass, his grandchildren, Angelina Hurt, Leila Weaver, Elliott Weaver, Audrey Harbin, Lillian Harbin, Garce Harbin, his stepson Nathan Harbin, as well as his sisters Holly and Debbie Vass.

We will be gathering for a celebration of Rob's life, which will be held at 6 p.m. at the fire hall in Madison on February 8.
