AUGUSTA — Robert S. "Steve" Welte, 98, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2026.
He was born in Augusta on March 6, 1927, to the late Frederick A. And Mary Catherine Appleman Welte.
He was a United States Army Veteran, and served during the Korean War Era. He was also a Lifetime Member of VFW Post 9535, a member of St. Augustine Church, and was retired from General Motors Assembly Division in Norwood, Ohio.
He is survived by his children, Mark (Darlene) Welte of Derby, Kan., and Lonny Welte of Augusta; his grandchildren, Erin Welte of Wichita, Kan., Rachel (Jonathan) Craft of Derby, Kan., and Susan Welte of Chicago, Ill.; and great-grandchildren, Sophia Craft and Savannah Craft.
He is also survived by his siblings, Pat (Tom) Bankemper of Newport, Ky., Therese Shaw-Jones of Cleveland, Ohio and Dick (Ja) Welte of Augusta.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma White Welte and his second wife, Betty Stamper Welte; his siblings, Frederick J. Welte, Delores Holleran Muhlenpoh, and David Welte.
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at St. Augustine Church in Augusta, KY.
Burial will be at St. Augustine Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 p.m.-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, at Moore and Parker Funeral Home in Augusta, KY.
Memorials are suggested to St. Augustine Church or VFW Post 9535.

Steve lived a good and long life. He served the community and the VFW for a very long time. I am proud to have known him and I'm sure he is in the arms of our Lord. RIP Steve
