With love, remembrance and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert “Mickey” Michael Werner of Grove, Oklahoma. Mickey passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 10 at the age of 70. Mickey was born March 8, 1955, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to John and Billye (Davis) Werner. He resided in Independence, Kansas and attended Independence Public Schools. In 1974, Mickey founded Werner’s Pipe Service along with his father, John, and brother, Terry. Mickey designed and built a custom hydrostatic pipe testing truck. As he gained experience in the oil fields, Mickey set out to, and succeeded in, solving internal corrosion problems he observed in the many salt water injection and disposal wells their company tested. His innovative designs were patented and the company shifted into manufacturing SealTite Lining Systems.
Over the years, Mickey refined the engineering and design of his products and secured multiple additional patents. He worked alongside his father John, brother Terry, son Steven, nephew Matt and Kent Stewart, Bette Bassford, Phil Hindle and Dave Hindle to build a thriving business. In 1999, Mickey and his beloved wife Karen, along with their youngest child, relocated to Grove, Oklahoma in order to focus on his work in developing Patricia Island Estates. Mickey and Karen have resided there happily for the last 26 years. His work ethic and brilliant mind were often admired yet he remained a quiet and humble presence throughout his life. Mickey’s family and friends knew him as trustworthy and loyal. There was no one they would rather kick back, crack open a cold Coors Light and laugh with at the end of a long day. Mickey had a great sense of adventure. He loved to hit the open road for cross country RV trips with his wife, Karen, and they were often joined by his parents or brother, Terry and Collette. Mickey held a private pilot’s license for many years and regularly took his young children on spur of the moment trips. Whether it was spending a day on the lake, cramming too many kids into a small RV for spring break ski trips, or buzzing around the state to cheer on his favorite runner - his adventures so often centered around his family.
Mickey is survived by his cherished wife, Karen Werner, of the home, his mother, Billye Werner, his brother, Terry (Collette) Werner, his children Kathy (Scot) Law, Steven (Heather) Werner, Jennifer (Justin) Atkinson, Justin (Jessica) Austin, Kelly Werner Janson, Melinda Werner, and Michaela Werner. He is survived by his many grandchildren who brought him so much joy: Kristina, Joshlynn, Cole, Bailey, Seth, Aiden, Chase, Arianna, Aliviya, Maryn, Sawyer, Cooper, Dalton, Ian, Ryker, Eleanor, Addy, Miles, Sophie, Gracie, Gabriel and his first great grandchild, Charlotte. He is survived by nephews, Matt Werner and John Wilson, and niece Mikki West. Mickey was preceded in death by his father, John Werner and sister, Tammy Wilson.
The family will receive visitors at Potts Chapel from 6 PM - 8 PM on Friday, February 20, 2026. Celebration of life will begin at 12:00 PM on Saturday February 21, 2026 at Potts Chapel with graveside services following immediately at Mount Hope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Mickey to the Independence American Legion or VFW of Independence.
