Orlin D. Smith
Orlin D. Smith, 87 of Independence, Kansas passed away Tuesday January 13,2026, at Eagle Estates where he resided since April 1, 2025. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Potts Chapel, and a Celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Potts Chapel.
Orlin was born April 24th, 1938, to Wesley and Gladys (Williams) Smith in Joplin Missiouri. There were eight children born to this union, Roxie, Ellen, George, Charles, Guy, West, Alice, Polly, Jerry, and Orlin. His mother passed away when he was 2 years old.
On June 7, 1958, Orlin married Ruby May Griffoth. They were later divorced and she passed away on Christmas Day 2024. On May 24, 1997, he married Phyllis Medlock and she dies on March 20, 2017.
Orlin was well known for his employment of over 20 years as a delivery man and truck driver for Rainbow Bread. Orlin also drove for Trucking by George (Kopco) of Caney. Orlin was an avid square dancer, and enjoyed riding motorcycles, and he loved horses.
Orlin leaves three children, Allen (Cindy) Smith of Independence, Kansas, Alicia (Pebbles), and Andy Smart, of Coffeyville, Kansas. Dustin (Stephine) Smith of Parkville Missouri; eight grandchildren and three Great-grandchildren. Orlin was also proceeded in death by his son Wesley of Independence, Kansas.
In Lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the SEK Animal Clinic Caulkins Treatment for spay and neutering, or Harry Hynes Hospice of Coffeyville, Kansas.
