Robert Whitehouse Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by ZIEMER FUNERAL HOME-NORTH CHAPEL on Jan. 16, 2026.
Robert A. Whitehouse passed away Friday, January 16, 2026 at the Linda White Hospice House, Deaconess, in Evansville. Bob was born August 1, 1941 in Evansville to the late Norman and Marie (Reif) Whitehouse.

He graduated from Bosse High School in 1959 and earned his varsity letter in several sports (including his beloved baseball). Bob was a Navy Veteran and fleet meteorologist. He received his Certificate in Aerology from Naval Air Station, Lakehurst, New Jersey and his Leadership Training in San Diego. Bob attended Indiana State University and also had a certificate in Professional Baseball Umpiring from Daytona Beach, Florida.

Bob had a varied and interesting professional life: He fell in love with politics and was an integral member of the Mayor Russell G. Lloyd administration. He was the owner of the Butcher Block Restaurant, Executive Director of three license branches for the State of Indiana, and Republican County Chairman (simultaneously!). Bob was President and CEO of PRO-ECO, a subsidiary of Black Beauty Coal Company, Marketing Director at Evansville Regional Airport, and Senior Executive Sales Manager for the Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau. He was awarded the Keys to Evansville, Sagamore of the Wabash, and Kentucky Colonel.

During his political career, Bob made many dear, lifelong friends and attended many political events, including the inauguration of several presidents. He was fortunate to meet Presidents, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. Although he enjoyed meeting with heads of state, Bob's heart was always with family and the people in his home community of Evansville. He definitely had a zest for life!

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Caren Gentry Whitehouse; sons, Bobby Whitehouse (Jannie) and Randy Whitehouse (Lisa) and their mother, Jane Young; stepchildren, David Briel (Angela) and Katy Briel (Josh Reynolds); several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his dogs, Rocky and Kaycee.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel, 6300 N. First Ave., Evansville. Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Sts. Mary and John Parish, 613 Cherry St., Evansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church with Father Stephen Lintzenich officiating.

Burial at Sea and committal ceremony will be conducted by the US Navy in the Pacific Ocean.

Bob loved his flowers and garden. If you choose to make a donation, they may be made in memory of Bob to the Linda White Hospice House, Deaconess Foundation, 600 Mary St., Evansville, IN 47710.

I was saddened to hear of Mr. Whitehouse passing away. He is a long time friend to my parents, Bob and Juanita Working. I offer my deep felt sympathies to his family. I regret that I did not know him better. I pray for his peace and eternal happiness through the Love of Our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ. I also pray for the family to be comforted in their time of sorrow.

Respectfully,
Angela M Working
