Robert L. Workman, 94, of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on Monday, June 23, 2025, at HospiceCare at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, WV.

He was born July 14, 1930, at Chapmanville, WV, a son of the late Floyd and Delia Adkins Workman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Robert L. "Bob" Workman, Jr.; one son-in-law, Kent Justice; one grandson, Michael Kent Justice; five sisters, Rose Workman, Virginia Toler, Doreen Elkins, Eunice Elkins, and Pauline Workman; and two brothers, Ben Workman and Irvin Workman.

Before becoming a well-known local businessman, Robert proudly served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army. His two years of service were marked by the same commitment and integrity that he would later bring to his civilian life. Following his military service, Robert embarked on a 19-year career with the railroad, where he was respected for his work ethic and camaraderie with his colleagues. Robert's entrepreneurial spirit led him to become the owner and operator of Workman's IGA in Chapmanville, a role he embraced with passion and excellence for many years. His store was more than a business; it was a gathering place for the community, a testament to his dedication to service and his ability to forge lasting relationships with those he served.

An avid golfer, Robert could often be found on the greens, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow golf enthusiasts and the serenity of the game. His love for golf was only matched by his joy in being a wonderful father and grandfather. Robert's family was the cornerstone of his life, and he instilled in them the values of love, hard work, and the importance of making time for one another. Together with his wife, Sylvia, Robert cherished the moments spent at their second home in Florida. These retreats provided a sanctuary where they could enjoy each other's company and the warm, coastal breezes. In his younger days, Robert was an avid outdoorsman, and he relished the times he could cast a line into the water and fish, surrounded by nature's beauty.

Robert will long be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his entrepreneurial spirit, and his love for the great outdoors. His memory will be held dear in the hearts of those who knew him as a steadfast friend, a committed community member, and a loving family man.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 73 years, Sylvia Workman; one daughter, Rhonda Workman Justice of Chapmanville, WV; one daughter-in-law, Velma Bailey Workman of Chapmanville, WV; three granddaughters, Jennifer Justice Gorrell and her husband, Brandon, Kellie Justice Blanchard and her husband, Chris, and Charlene Justice all of Charleston, WV; one grandson, Christopher Robert Workman and his wife, Megan of Chapmanville, WV; his great-grandchildren, Jacob Justice, Katie and Jack Gorrell, Elizabeth and Alexandra Blanchard; one brother, Ray (Odessa) Workman of Chapmanville, WV; his faithful friend and canine companion, Buster The Wonder Dog. Additionally, Robert leaves behind a host of extended family and countless friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, WV, with Rev. John E. Godby officiating.

Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby, WV. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
