Robert Yike Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bill Head Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. - Duluth Chapel on Sep. 9, 2023.
It is with great sadness that the family of Bob Yike must inform you of his passing.
Mr. Robert "Bob" Louis Yike Sr. of Lawrenceville, GA, passed away Thursday, September 7th, 2023, due to lung complications.
Born May 10, 1933, in Buffalo, NY, to the late Daniel Yike and the late Louise (Freiberger) Yike. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Kay (Mann) Yike; sister, Margaret Householder; brothers, Dick Yike, Dan Yike and Jimmy Yike.
He served in the Army for 2 years as PFC in the 101st Airborne Squadron at Fort Jackson, SC from 1954 to June 1956. Attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and became a Structural Engineer, designing Bellsouth telephone buildings. He later went on to open a business with his wife, Sylvia and sister, Margaret: Margaret's Figurines, Art Accents and The Snoop Shop. Ceramics were very popular in the 1970's. Then in 1982 he and his wife opted for an adventure and moved to New Orleans, LA. Later their son, John made the move down and they opened Studio 5 to create "woodgraphs" for Street Scenes Galleries in Riverwalk and Jax Brewery Malls. Bob finally retired in 2014. He was a faithful member of Blessed Francis Seelos Catholic Church and was often seen giving rides to the older ladies of the church, affectionally known as "his girls". After returning to Georgia in July 2020, he continued to attend weekly video meetings with the Legion of Mary. And EWTN Mass became a daily ritual when travel was limited.
Survivors include his seven children: Robert Yike Jr, Patsy Yike, Fr. John Yike, Carolynne Elliott (Peter), Bill Yike (Lisa), Mary Yike and Margaret Monteith (Monty). Eight grandchildren: Melissa Bickimer (Michael), Michelle Yike (Jaime), Lee Wiscovitch, Bobby Yike III (Mayra), Nick Monteith (Andrea), Danielle Johnson (Chad), Josh Monteith and Quinn Elliott. Fourteen great-grandchildren: Brian Virrueta, Abby Virrueta, Natalie Aparicio, Gabriel Aparicio, Alexis Yike, Noah Monteith, Claire Bickimer, McKenzie Monteith, Taylor Bickimer, Avery Johnson, Arthur Bickimer, Tessa Yike, Whitney Bickimer & Hadleigh Johnson. His remaining Sister-in-Law, Eveline Yike, as well as treasured nieces & nephews.
Son, Brother, Husband, Bob, Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa and Friend are just a few names used to define this man. Faithful, Dedicated, Loving, Prayer Warrior and Sports Fan also apply. The Atlanta Braves, New Orleans Saints, New Orleans Pelicans, the Brooklyn Nets and of course GA Tech were some of his favorite teams. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Cancer Society, 6500 Sugarloaf Pkwy, Suite 260, Duluth, GA 30097 (770)814-0123.

Jeannie, wonderful to hear from you! We remember you and your family, too, and hope that all is well. Yes, the '60's on Ashford Dunwoody Road, what a chapter; and so many others to follow. Dad had a long, full, loving life and was surrounded by all of us as he departed.
You can find me at [email protected] to connect. Best, Patsy

So sorry for your loss sending prayers for all of your family

I lived next door to him on Ashford Rd in Brookhaven ga. I babysat his children : Bobby, Johnny, Patsy, Billy, Carolyn, and the twins Mary and Margaret. They were such a lovely family and I really loved baby sitting until I went to college in 1969. So sorry for your loss. Jeannie Wyckoff
