Robert Yokum Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by E.J. Fielding Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Jan. 8, 2026.
Robert W. Yokum passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Linda (Duckworth); one uncle, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and great nieces, nephews and great nephews, one great-great nephew, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilda and Walter Vaughan; and his in-laws, Frank and Helen Duckworth, whom he cherished.

Rob was known by many names through family, friends and business associates: Robert, Robbie, Bob, Bobbie, but the ones he loved best were Uncle and Paran.

Rob was a Professional Engineer. A member of the ASCE - American Society of Civil Engineers and SAME – Society of American Military Engineers. He attended the University of New Orleans and Tulane University, where he received his Master's in civil engineering. He was a structural engineer and successful businessman. Rob started YES - Yokum Engineering Solutions, after working for the Corps of Engineers and a few large engineering firms. He designed projects for the Corps for local projects and throughout several states.

Rob could tell a good story. He was a member of the Stardusters Drum and Bugle Corp. and a music lover. He was a Mardi Gras enthusiast and an Endymion rider. He enjoyed golf, football and baseball. He was a loyal Saints and LSU fan. He loved when family and friends visited and he could take them to a football game, show them around town, and take them to one of his favorite restaurants for New Orleans seafood and to share a brew or two.

Rob was a friend to many and loved by all. Linda would like to thank Rob's devoted friends who gave so much love and support. She is grateful for the life others gave them through their friendship.

Memorial contributions, in Robert Yokum's memory, may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank, 700 Edwards Ave, New Orleans, LA 70123. [email protected]

From "St. Louis brother" (Bob had a lot of brothers). I had the privilege and pleasure to work next to Bob from 1988-1992 on Red River Lock and Dam when he and Linda lived in St. Louis. My favorite project of my career. Departure was bitter sweet but we again got to work together again in 2000 on Olmsted Dam. In 2006 we had a team in the Jacob fantasy football league. We both agreed later that our continuation of the team was to talk to each other not football. He and Linda sometimes reminisce about living in St. Louis (first snow, is a memory?) It does not seem fair. What we got New Orleans: 1993 Mardi Gras where Shirley (my wife) was able to yell at Bob and he threw he beads from his Endymion float, the fabulous Cajun food from the many restaurants he took us to, showing his house slab at St. Bernard Parish after Katrina, our trip to the French Quarters, our valued but hurried visits on our return trips from Florida for the last 10 years. Too many great memories. As reality sinks in there will be no 985 area codes on my phone and a greeting, "Mr. Steve how are you doing". While I´m sad my faith kicks in I thank God that he put Bob in my life and the time we had.
