Roberta Leslie Engstedt, age 82 of Crofton, Nebraska died on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD.
A Memorial service will be on Friday, May 9, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton with Cheri Leader officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be at the Crofton City Cemetery in Crofton. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton.
Roberta Leslie was born on August 13, 1942 in Crofton, NE to Leslie W. and Mildred L. (Hedberg) Hillman. She grew up in Crofton with six siblings – Carolyn, Tom, Dianne, Sandra, Joyce, and Montie Hillman. She graduated from Crofton High School and then received her Master’s Degree in Education & Literature from Wayne State College. Roberta taught at Wayne State College and worked at the library in Wakefield. She married Dennis D. Engstedt on October 28, 1962, in Crofton, NE. She and Dennis lived in Wakefield while she worked in Wayne. Roberta then taught at the school on the Santee Reservation for several years. Roberta and Dennis moved to Crofton in early 1992.
Roberta liked to cook and bake, write poetry and read books. She loved tending to her rose bushes and her garden in her younger years. Roberta and Dennis each rode Harley Davidson motorcycles and took many trips on their bikes to Sturgis and shorter trips to the casino and other places of interest. Roberta especially loved her two daughters and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Roberta is survived by her husband Dennis of Crofton; two daughters Cheryl (Scott) Roesler of Omaha, Elizabeth Engstedt of Keller, TX, five grandchildren Brandon (Cara) Roesler, Kayla Roesler & Austen Neill, Tyler (Rebekah) Anway, Amanda (Hayden) Kinnard, Haylie Schultz; four great grandchildren Eloise, Emerson, Everett, and Emma; three siblings Carolyn Gartner of Yankton, SD, Tom (Deb) Hillman of Crofton, Dianne Woockman of Crofton.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leslie and Mildred Hillman; three siblings Sandra Hillman, Joyce Hillman, and Montie Hillman.
