Bonnerup Funeral & Cremation Service - Albert LeaRoberta Marcelle Erntson passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, in New Richland, Minnesota. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at United Methodist Church in Albert Lea. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Roberta will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Elvin, at Graceland Cemetery in Albert Lea.
Roberta was born and raised on the family farm in Bancroft Township to Howard and Hazel Besco. On June 24, 1960, Roberta married her beloved husband, Elvin Erntson, at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea.
Her various careers included serving as a dispatcher for Yellow Cab, contributing her skills at Albert Lea Electro Plating, and delivering papers for the Albert Lea Tribune. In addition to her professional endeavors, Roberta was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church; proudly serving as a 3rd Grade Sunday School Teacher for an astounding 66 1/2 years, a role that showcased her commitment to nurturing the younger generation. Throughout her life, Roberta held various leadership positions within the church, including president of the United Methodist Women and an active participant in the Martha Circle. Her faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her charitable acts and inspiring those around her.
Roberta's proudest accomplishments reflect her dedication to her community and family. She was recognized as the Senior Volunteer of the Year for Freeborn County and the State of Minnesota, a testament to her tireless work in the service of others. Furthermore, the Freedom Rock at the Freeborn County Courthouse originated from her land, marking her commitment to honoring service and sacrifice.
Her vibrant personality shone through her numerous hobbies and interests. A member of the 500 Club and past president of the Women's Bowling League, Roberta relished her time in the bowling alley. Her commitment to social activities continued as a life member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles, and American Legion. Roberta cherished her mornings at the Hy-Vee Coffee Club and remained actively involved in REACT, taking on roles as president and vice-president multiple times. Her adventurous spirit led her to participate in events such as the Big Island Rendezvous, and her passion for communication was evident in her status as a Ham Radio Operator.
Roberta will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her legacy of love and charitable acts of kindness and faith she so freely gave to everyone around her.
She is survived by her son, Paul Ernston; her grandchildren, Storm Erntson, Blaze Steinhaus, and Jeryka Allison; her great-grandchildren, Raine Erntson, Alyce Erntson, and Blayde Spatz. She also leaves behind her nieces, Sharon Watkins and Marsha Gold; her nephew, Owen Besco; and special friends Perry Vining, Eloise Adams, Joann Sizer, Judy Hargrave, Allen VonHagen, and Art Hughes.
Roberta was preceded in death by her loving husband, Elvin Erntson; her parents, Howard and Hazel Besco; and her siblings, Howard Roy Besco, Ray Robert Besco, Cleota Maude Jensen, and an infant brother.
