Roberta Houston Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Haynes Mortuary, Inc. on Dec. 17, 2025.
Born on November 27, 1925, in Belcher, Louisiana, Roberta Stephens Houston was one of twelve children raised by David and Alberta Stephens. Her early years in Plain Dealing, LA and later in Texarkana, TX, shaped her deep sense of family and faith. As a dedicated member of New Town Baptist Church, she served on the Usher Board and sang in the Senior Choir for over sixty years, treasuring every moment and faithfully managing the choir's finances for more than five decades.

On October 26, 1954, Roberta married her soulmate, Henry Houston. Together, they built a loving family, welcoming Henry Houston Jr. (wife, Kathy), Jimmie Houston Sr. (wife, Gwen), Ronnie Houston (wife, Nanette), and Sharron Houston.

A hardworking woman, Roberta devoted herself to her community through her service at Lone Star Ammunition Plant and Red River Army Depot. Her generosity reached far beyond her own household as she became the driver of countless journeys, ensuring not only her children but also neighborhood families and friends made it to ball games, practices, church services, and community events. Roberta's kindness was woven into every aspect of her life: she freely shared her gifts in cooking, baking, sewing, and gardening, nurturing those around her with both skill and love. To many, she was more than a mother, she was a guiding presence and a source of comfort. Her home radiated warmth, laughter, and fellowship, standing as a welcoming place for all who entered.

Blessed with a century of life, Roberta leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, nine siblings, her beloved husband Henry Norman Houston Sr. (2005), her son Jimmie Houston Sr. (2025), as well as cherished in laws and other dear relatives who went before her. Though many of her loved ones have passed, their memory remains intertwined with hers, a testament to the enduring bonds of family and community.

She is survived by her children: Henry Houston Jr. (wife, Kathy), Ronnie Houston (wife, Nanette), and Sharron Houston; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. Two siblings; Jarret (Brown) Stephens (wife, Diane), Gustavia (B-Baby) Walton, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
