Roberta T. Korus, "Bobbi," 85, of Kingston, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023, as a result of a long-term illness.
Born Feb. 3, 1938, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of Kathryn and George Tierney. Roberta was an active child and young adult involving herself with ballet and tap dancing, roller and ice skating. In addition, Roberta was an excellent classical pianist and artist. A 1955 honors graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Roberta secured a full scholarship to College Misericordia but chose to enter into employment with Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania in the same year as a toll and cord board operator in Wilkes-Barre.
On Aug. 26, 1961, Roberta married John T. Korus in St. Francis Church, Miners Mills. Roberta was married for 55 years until the passing of her husband, John, in 2016. Taking 16 years off from Bell Telephone to raise her three children, Shaun, Sharon and Dawn in 1962, she would return to Bell Telephone in 1978. Roberta would retire with 30 years of service with Bell System/Verizon in 2001.
Roberta was an avid reader of mysteries, and donated her collection of over 200 hardcover books to an Osterhout Free Library book sale so others could enjoy the books.
Her children, Shaun T. Korus, Sharon M. Korus and Dawn Winarski Stroud will miss her dearly. Her grandchildren, Christopher and Shannon Kern; and great-grandchild, Sophia Bogart, also miss their beloved grandmother.
