Roberta Lane Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home & Remembrance Crematory - Bowling Green on Feb. 27, 2026.
Roberta Lane passed away peacefully on Feb. 23, 2026, at the Willows at Bowling Green.

Roberta was born July 12, 1934, at her parents' home on a farm in Noble County, OH, to Daniel Bernard and Iva Pauline (Clark) Buckey. She met her husband, Bud Lane, of 68 years, on a blind date, and they were married on March 10, 1956.

Roberta is survived by their two children and spouses: Sue and Barry DiBiasio, Bowling Green, OH, and Jon and Donna Lane, Aurora, CO; grandchildren: Jessica (Cale) Hover, Anthony DiBiasio, Mariah (Allan) McDaniel, Joel (Heather) Lee; and great-grandchildren: Joey, Jack, and Allison Hover, Harper Lee and Myla McDaniel.

As the oldest of nine children, she is survived by a large network of family and friends who often visited, called and sent cards. Her surviving sisters are Connie (David) Bowling and Cheryl Moffat, and many beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Daniel, Robert, Jack, Bill and Duane Buckey; sister, Brenda Imes; and her grandson, Jackson Lane.

Roberta was a strong advocate for education and equality and was well-known in the community for her service to Bowling Green City Schools, Women's Club of Bowling Green, First United Methodist Church of Bowling Green, Children's Resource Center, and many organizations in which she provided strategic leadership.

Roberta was a lifelong teacher, starting at only 18 while she attended postsecondary education, teaching full-time during the teacher shortage in the early 50s. The bulk of her career was teaching English, Social Studies and Reading to middle school students at Bowling Green Junior High School from 1968 - 1994. Upon her retirement, she taught methods and supervised student teachers at Bowling Green State University. She served as a strong mentor, a fearless union representative, and was named teacher of the year twice during her career.

Roberta was a true matriarch, defined by strength, conviction and unwavering standards. Generous in her support and deeply proud of her family's accomplishments, she celebrated hard work, perseverance and achievement. Guided by a strong faith in God, she lived with purpose and believed deeply in service, education and personal responsibility. Her legacy is one of resilience, faith and a family shaped by her example.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Willows of Bowling Green in addition to Roberta's (and Bud's) special caregivers: Bev, Jane and Jeannine, who provided exceptional care over the past few years.

A memorial service will be held May 9, 2026, at First United Methodist Church with visitation at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 service and luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to First United Methodist Church of Bowling Green, OH.
