Roberta Lee Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dettling Funeral Home on Jul. 23, 2022.
Roberta Riggleman Lee entered into eternal rest on July 20, 2022. She was born in McCoole, Maryland, on August 23, 1935, the fourth of five children born to Roosevelt and Frances Riggleman.
Roberta, known as Bobby to her family and friends, grew up in the mountains of western Maryland. She was an excellent student and graduated as salutatorian from Bruce High School in Westernport, Maryland. Following in the footsteps of her beloved aunt, Bobby completed her nursing certification in 1956. She then attended the University of Pittsburgh, where she earned her bachelor's degree in nursing and worked on the surgical floor of Pittsburgh Children's Hospital.
In 1961 she married Kenneth Lee, a doctoral student at Carnegie Tech, whom she met on a blind date at the bowling alley. The following year, the young couple moved to Houston, Texas, where Ken began his career and Bobby devoted herself to raising her daughters.
Throughout her life, Bobby was an active volunteer in her church and community, serving as a Sunday school teacher, Girl Scout leader, room mother, stage mom, and just about any other role that came her way. A member of Kinsmen Lutheran Church for nearly 50 years, she served as church council secretary during the construction of the sanctuary, and in later years she was especially dedicated to the flower ministry.
Bobby was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed every kind of needlework and craft imaginable. Before there was Etsy, Bobby was operating "The Sewing B" as a small business to market her many crafts. She loved gardening, baking holiday goodies, solving a good puzzle, and especially supporting her children and grandchildren in all their activities.
Roberta is survived by her daughter Kathryn Lee Schwarzbach, husband Michael, and sons Jonathan and Brian; her daughter Rebecca Lee McDonald, husband Jon, and stepson Mitchell; her husband's siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bobby is predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her four siblings, Pauline Riley, Phyllis Brotemarkle, Charles Riggleman, and Mary Riggleman.
For those desiring, flowers are appreciated, or memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Kinsmen Lutheran Church.
The Lee family will be present to receive friends Wednesday, July 27, 2022 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079. The funeral service celebrating Roberta's life will be held Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Kinsmen Lutheran Church, 12100 Champion Forest Drive, Houston, TX 77066. A reception will follow services on the church campus. Mrs. Lee will be laid to rest at Memorial Oaks Cemetery following the reception.
