Roberta Ann Vance (nee Hallbauer) died Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 9:40am in Virtua Hospital in Marlton, NJ. She was the beloved wife of David E. Vance for nearly 50 years.
In David's words: I met Bobbie in the fall of 1967 at a TEP fraternity party at 307 North Fifth Street in Camden. She was standing against the living room wall, all thin and blond and all I could say was "Wow!".
We both attended Rutgers and both graduated in 1970. I did a tour of duty in the Navy; she worked in accounting at Jefferson Hospital. After the Navy, I was a Washington consultant for a while and we got married in 1974, seven years after we first dated.
After Jefferson, she worked at CHOP, Child Guidance Clinic and moved up the professional ladder to corporate controller. After Child Guidance, she moved to Pierce College, where she was the controller until she retired.
In addition to being beautiful, she was the sweetest, kindest soul imaginable. Everyone loved her. And she was smart. I am a smart guy, but I could never beat her at cards. She did two crossword puzzles a day and solved clues that were way over my head. She also predicted new technologies, for example, she predicted TV streaming two decades before the Internet.
We bought a house in Audubon together, fixed it up, sold it and bought our current home in Sturbridge Lakes, Voorhees. Even though it was new, she had ideas for fixing it up, and always had a project on the horizon.
I had hoped we would grow old together, two doddering gray-haired seniors shuffling from diner to diner. But I knew the odds were against us. Bobbie was 76 when she passed away. Bobbie's father died of heart disease at 56 and her mother died at 73. Her sister Nancy died at 79, like Bobbie, after a fall and broken bone.
Saturday, June 29th, she fell in the kitchen and broke her femur. She was operated on at Virtua and sent to rehab, but she never recovered from the stress of the fall and gradually deteriorated. On July 17, she was taken to Virtua Hospital Marlton Emergency Room, where even the most heroic efforts of doctors and nurses could not stabilize her. I was there, holding her hand, and talking to her for the last 40 minutes of her life. We had a great life together.
I feel like an astronaut standing on the moon looking home when the earth suddenly vanishes. The stuffings have been knocked out of me. What will I do without her? She was my world.
Her loving husband,
Dave
Family and friends are invited to Bobbie's viewing 10-11am and to her Funeral Service at 11am on Tuesday, July 23 at BRADLEY FUNERAL HOME, 601 NJ 73 South (at Evesham Rd.), Marlton, NJ. Enjoying lunch together at the UWF table, Bobbie was a joy to speak with and certainly a light at the table or in our Circle meeting. So sorry to hear of her passing. We needed more time with her.

We first met Bobbie at Haddonfield United Methodist Church attending a church service with her husband - our long-time friend and colleague at Rutgers School of Business, Dave Vance. Bobbie and Dave joined our Sunday School class shortly afterwards and were a wonderful addition to the group. We remember Bobbie as a sweet, kind, and thoughtful lady who added to our class discussions. She will be greatly missed!
