Thomas John Caston, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, United States Army veteran passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at the age of 94. Preceded in death by his cherished wife of 50 years, Tom is now joyfully reunited with his precious Joan.

Born to Mary and Joseph Caston in Newark, NJ on April 4, 1931. Tom was an all-state basketball player at Hillside High School. He was awarded a full scholarship to Rutgers University. Instead, Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Following his service, Tom began an illustrious sales career in the food industry. He started as a Safeway salesclerk. There, a manager told him that he would go no further than this position. His natural passion to succeed led him to seek greater opportunity. He found this opportunity within the Carnation Company. Tom spent 31 years rising through the corporate ranks. Those years found Tom working in New York, New England, and Great Britain. While he amassed multiple awards and accolades, his greatest reward was the friendships he developed and maintained until his death. Tom retired as a senior executive in 1989. From his corner office, Tom raised a glass of his treasured Dewar's Scotch toasting not only his lifework but that same manager that questioned his abilities. Never acrimonious, he celebrated the statement that inspired him to succeed beyond anyone's expectations.

Tom and retirement did not blend. He continued his professional ambitions at Supermarket Promotions and then as the Executive Director of New Seabury's Peninsula Council HOA. There, he found the perfect combination of social and service. He thrived from the community improvements he installed and the relationships he created. Tom's generosity of time and talents was beyond compare.

At the core of Tom was his appreciation of faith, friends, and family. A devout Catholic, Tom was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He often remarked that life's most important events were celebrated on the altar. His friends agree that Tom was a kind soul, a true gentleman for the ages. Of all accomplishments and blessings, family was paramount.

Tom led an active life; pick-up basketball games, sets of tennis and rounds of golf defined his earlier years. He was a ferocious reader and avid learner. He and Joan traveled the globe for business and pleasure. While his natural curiosity served as a base for these adventures, Tom's truest safe harbor was home. Now he has been called home to the Eternal Kingdom. Earth is lesser, Heaven is greater.

Loving father to Donna Christerson (Paul) and Debbie McNamara (Billy). Proudest grandfather to Debbie & Billy's children; Amanda Nocera (Kyle), Caroline and Will. He treasured time with grandchildren, sharing his passions and engaging in theirs. Hospitalized, Tom was able to FaceTime with his great-grandson, Owen Nocera. His broad smile and laughter in harmony with his tears of joy.

Tom was preceded in death by his faithful brother Robert. He is survived by Robert's widow, Clare. Also by devoted in-laws John and Carol Mustalish. He will be certainly missed by several nieces and nephews.
