Roberto Sustaita Sr. passed away surrounded by loved ones on February 1st, 2025, in Kansas City, KS.
Roberto Sr. was born on October 19th, 1949, to Martin and Maria Sustaita in Donna, Texas. He spent most of his childhood in Texas before moving to Kansas City, KS in 1965. In 1968, he met the love of his life, Martha Silvia Licea, in Armoudale. Martha had just moved to Armoudale with her parents and siblings from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Roberto loved to tell the story of how he fell in love with Martha, often saying that he fell in love with her at first sight after being hypnotized by her green eyes. On August 15th, 1969, Roberto and Martha were united in holy matrimony at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Armoudale. It was truly fate that brought Roberto and Martha to the same neighborhood during the 60s where they would continue falling in love and raising their beautiful children. Their marriage was blessed with four children: the late Roberto Sustaita Jr. (1970-2024), Jose Angel Sustaita (1973), Carlos Miguel Sustaita (1976) and Guadalupe Cristal Sustaita (1983).
From 1967 to 2017 Roberto was an auto body man. He loved to work on old cars and bring them back to life. He took immense pride in his craftsmanship and was known to a be a perfectionist in his trade. Outside of work, he loved to tune in to wrestling (WWF, etc), The Three Stooges, Archi Bunker, Andy Griffith or the Beverly Hillbillys show. Roberto’s favorite playlist would include oldies music, conjunto/Tejano music and country music. Every spring, Roberto had a garden that he carefully nurtured so that it could supply him with fresh tomatoes and jalapeno peppers. Roberto was a respectable man who leaves his loved ones with many cherished memories that they will hold on to forever.
Roberto was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Maria Sustaita; son, Roberto Sustaita Jr.; brothers, Ricardo, Johnny, Guadalupe Francisco and Jose Angel Sustaita.
He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Sustaita; children, Jose Angel, Carlos Miguel and Guadalupe Cristal Sustaita; brothers, Martin Sustaita; sister, Theresa Sustaita; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many other family members and close friends.
The family would like to thank everyone who has reached out to them during these difficult times.
