Rochelle Johnson-beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend-passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, in Lithonia, Georgia, at the age of 60. Rochelle was born on August 30, 1964 in Waukegan, Illinois; she grew up in North Chicago, developing a lifelong love for family, faith, and simple joys.
Rochelle's life was defined by unwavering devotion to her family. She shared a deep and enduring love with her husband. She was married to Dean for 23 years and they were together for over 25; Dean was her partner, confidant, and best friend throughout life. Rochelle also had an abiding love for her children; she embraced her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children. Her grandchildren meant the world to her, and she found joy in every moment spent with them. She loved every holiday; the beauty of freshly fallen snow; the magic of decorating
and crafting. She was an avid reader and a devoted fan of Superman, whose strength and goodness mirrored her own.
Her faith was a guiding light, and she was a faithful member of Mountain West Church in Tucker, Georgia. Rochelle was also deeply passionate about breast cancer research, dedicating her time and heart to supporting the cause. [If you would like to make a donation in her honor, they can be made at the Breast Cancer Prevention Partners (https://www.bcpp.org/).]
She is survived by her loving husband, Dean M. Johnson; her children, Wesley (Vashon) Hanna, Victor Fuller, Sarita Fuller, Trichelle Hanna, Candice Varnell, Quentin Johnson, and Marylee Jones; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Rochelle is also survived by her siblings John Boone, Regina (George) Daniels, Marlise Boone, Crane Hanna, Tobiah (Neriyah) Ben Israel, Cynthia (Jack) Buchanan, Joanne (Kenneth) Brown, Mark Hanna, Vera Hanna, Gilbert Cunningham Jr., Tina Tiggs, Shawn Nixon, Vanessa Cunningham, Gail Clark, and Chanel Williams.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother Snobia Boone; mother Gwendolyn Boone; fathers Willard Hanna and Gilbert Cunningham Sr.; siblings Snobia Hanna-Givens, Troy Daniels, and Anthony Cunningham; and grandchildren Jailah M. Ahmad and Hayden Clayton.
In accordance with her wishes, Rochelle has been cremated. A small private gathering to celebrate her life will be held on her birthday (August 30) in Smyrna, Georgia.
Rochelle's love, kindness, and joyful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Let us remember her warmth, her laughter-the way she made every holiday, snowfall, and gathering all the more bright.
In her own joyful spirit, we say one last farewell:
TOODLES!
