Roderick Kenneth Jackson, 82, of Altamonte Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
Born on June 21, 1943, in Key West, Florida, to John Edward Jackson and Florence Poitier, Roderick was raised amid the vibrant culture, music, and rhythm of the island he always carried in his spirit. In the heart of Key West, he earned the nickname “Culebra,” a name that perfectly captured his lively presence and unforgettable personality.
To his grandchildren, he was simply “Pops”—the storyteller, the laughter-bringer, and a steady source of warmth and joy. Roderick was a true creative soul. A passionate musician and gifted photographer, he expressed his love for life through sound and imagery, capturing moments and emotions through his own artistic lens. His creativity shaped how he connected with the world and with everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Roderick proudly served his country as a Vietnam War veteran, completing 19 years of honorable military service. His strength, discipline, and quiet steadiness reflected the values he lived by every day.
He is survived by his wife, Jaunita W. Jackson, and sons Sean Jackson; Roderick Jackson II (Renthia); James “Jimmy” Jackson (Lazara); Dani Kim (Cristee); and John Jackson (Meagan). He also leaves behind ten cherished grandchildren: Alexis, Haley, Jasmine, James, Arielle, Daniel, Dominic, Harlo, Lincoln, and Theodore.
Roderick is also survived by his sisters, Rogenia Handspike and Cheryl Lopez, along with a host of nieces and nephews who loved him deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Florence Jackson, and his siblings Wendell Jackson, Wayne Jackson, Chauncey Jackson, and Sarah Key.
Roderick’s life was rich with creativity, rhythm, and a spirit that drew people in. His music, his photographs, and the countless memories he created will be forever treasured by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (Winter Park Chapel), located at 3806 Howell Branch Road, Winter Park, Florida 32792.
Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
