Dr. Rodger N. Capps, 74, of the Poplar Springs Community in Graceville Florida, passed away December 23rd, 2025, after a brief illness. Roger was born in Graceville, Florida on January 10, 1951, to the late Harmon and Cathryn Capps.

After graduation from Poplar Springs High School, he continued his education at Chipola College, The University of West Florida, and the University of Florida where he received his PHD in engineering.

He worked for many years on research and development with design applications for polymers and adhesives systems. This led him to working with N.A.S.A. on the Space Shuttle Program where he was recognized for his exceptional service and contributions to the success of the program. He was instrumental in solving several issues that had existed for years in the program. Among his many contributions was the resolving of a major issue with the Space Shuttle Water System by designing an oxidizing agent dispensing system which inhibited the growth of bacteria . This came upon his discovery that the bacteria had initiated the problem. His resolution of many other technical issues, such as surface preparation Techniques and age-life questions on elastomers and soft goods, was essential to the space shuttle program.

In addition to his parents, Rodger is preceded in death by his brother, Larry Capps.

He is survived by 2 brothers, Kenneth Capps (Sue) and Mark Capps (Kay); 1 Sister Brenda Stoltzfus; 3 nephews; 3 nieces; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and many friends and extended family.

In honor of his wishes, there will be no services. James & Lipford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
