Rodger Chriesman Cotton, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 98 in Franklin, Tennessee, on August 8, 2025. Born on July 20, 1927, in Memphis, Tennessee, he was the beloved son of Walter Patton Cotton and Kathryn Hatcher Cotton.
Rodger's life was characterized by his dedication to both his family and his work. He spent twenty years as a dairy farmer before transitioning to a role with the USDA as an animal health technician in 1970. His work ethic was unmatched; he was known as a hard worker who approached all his endeavors with humility and kindness.
Rodger was a proud graduate of Battle Ground Academy and later attended the University of Tennessee, where he laid the foundation for his successful career. Throughout his life, he remained a lifelong resident of Williamson County, deeply rooted in the community that he cherished.
After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife, Mayme. For 69 wonderful years, Rodger and Mayme shared their lives, building a legacy of love and commitment that touched everyone around them.
Rodger is survived by his sons, Doyle (Marietta) Cotton of Nolensville, TN, and Dale (Kim) Cotton of Franklin, TN; his daughter-in-law, Nancy Cotton of Huntsville, AL; and his grandchildren: Derric (Paige) Cotton, Ryan Pobst, Allyson (Daniel) Hodges, Shelby (John) Coates, Kelsey Cotton, McCord Cotton, and Lofton Cotton. He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather to Will, Wake, Brave, Anchor, Cedar, Cypress, Evan, Kinsley, and Brady. He also leaves behind many other loving family members.
Rodger is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Mayme King Cotton; his son, Dwain Cotton; his sister, Kathryn Bryant; and his brother, Howard Cotton. He was also preceded by his parents, Walter and Kathryn Cotton.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the caring staff of NHC Place Cool Springs and St. Thomas Midtown for their exceptional support during Rodger's final days.
Funeral service will be held 2:00PM Tuesday, August 12, 2025 with visitation one hour prior to the service at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home. Jim Taylor will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt.
