Rodney Avis Obituary
He was born June 2, 1960, in Logan County, West Virginia, the son of the late Burton English Avis, Jr. and Helen Ann Gray Avis.
Mr. Avis was last employed with Omni Homestead Resort as a houseman. Prior to that he was a grounds man for Cliffview Golf Course.
He was a faithful and dedicated member of Eden Church, never missing a Family Ministries event or the annual Apple Butter Festival.
He was married to the late Mary Elizabeth Gwin Avis whom he married on January 3, 1982. She preceded him in death on August 20, 2012.
He is survived by two children, Elizabeth "Diesel" Keyser & husband Charles of Hot Springs, and Gaje Stephen Thomas of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Tatum Keyser of Hot Springs, Easton James Roberts and Dalton Coy "Dcoy" Roberts both of Burnsville, Virginia; a brother, Ricky Avis of Charlottesville, Virginia; and a sister, Laura O'Brien & husband Mike of Stuarts Draft, Virginia; and special friend Jerry "Pickle" Persinger.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tabatha Dawn Avis; and a sister, Tawana Floyd.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Eden Church with Pastor Bill Gram officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home to help with the funeral expenses.
