Rodney Allan Hirchert
October 3, 1948 - August 21, 2025
Rod Hirchert, a lifelong angler whose happiest moments were spent with a fishing rod in hand, passed away at the age of 76, surrounded by the love of his family.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Hirchert; his brother, Richard Hirchert; and his granddaughter, Paige Hirchert.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Kim Hirchert; his son, Todd (Laura) Hirchert; his daughter, Tammi (Troy) Bissen; his grandchildren, Mikaila (Dillon) Hunt, Tricia (Pete) Ramadan, Jacob Bissen, two great-granddaughters and bonus grandchildren, Kyle Bissen, Maddie Loeffler, Makenzie Swigart and two bonus great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Rick Johnson; his sister-in-law, Pam Allen; along with many nieces, nephews, and countless dear friends.
Rod lived a life of service, dedication, and joy. He proudly served his country as a Hospital Corpsman in the U.S. Navy before embarking on a 37-year career as a Nursing Home Administrator/Executive Director of nursing homes across Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri. His leadership, compassion, and commitment to others touched the lives of many. From 1977 to 1990, he was a member of the Dunlap Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department in Iowa, where he served as Rescue Captain and Fire Chief, offering his time and talents selflessly for the safety of others.
While his career and community work were important, Rod's true joy came from life's simple pleasures. He could often be found on the water, fishing or boating, or in his garden. His devotion to maintaining the perfect lawn was legendary, as was his enthusiastic dancing at social gatherings. These simple passions along with the love of his family were the cornerstone of his happiness. His infectious laughter, caring nature, and loyalty made him not only a trusted friend but also a cherished companion to all who knew him.
