Rodney Gene Karban, age 90 of Lake Preston passed away Monday, September 22, 2025, at Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD.

Funeral services for Rodney Karban will be 2:00 PM Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Crawford-Osthus/Johnson-Henry Funeral Chapel in Lake Preston, with Pastor Kris Larson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the chapel. Burial will be in the Lake Preston Cemetery. Following the burial a lunch will be served at the American Legion Post in Lake Preston.

Rodney was born January 29, 1935, in Lake Preston, SD to Steven O. and Angie M. (Morgan) Karban. He lived his entire life in Lake Preston, graduating from Lake Preston High School in 1953 and earning a degree in Business Administration from Huron College in 1957.

Rodney had a cattle feeding business and farmed with his family. He served in the National Guard and on the school board. Following retirement, Rodney delivered meals for the 60s plus dining program for many years. He enjoyed being able to provide that service for the people that needed it.

Rodney moved into Silver Plains Assisted Living in 2019. He always said he was living his best life at Silver Plains with Tonya and her crew taking care of him. He made it well known he had no intention of leaving and wanted Silver Plains to be his home until he had to be taken West for his final resting place.

Rodney enjoyed having morning coffee at Prairie Ag Partners and Boomers, playing cards and games, putting puzzles together, and word find books. He enjoyed following and watching sports, always supporting the Lake Preston Divers, the Huron College Tribe mens Basketball, and pro teams on TV.

Grateful for having sharing his life are son Brandon Karban, daughter Cherrlyn Pickering (Jamey), his grandchildren, Bailey Thooft (Tate), and Payton Pickering, nieces, Shawn Karban, Kosette Vargas, Jeralyn Anderson and Karla Rounseville and families.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Larre Karban.

Arrangements are entrusted to Crawford-Osthus/Johnson-Henry Funeral Chapel www.crawfordosthus.com of Arlington, Lake Preston and Oldham.
