Rodney Latta Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crawford / Ray Funeral Home from Sep. 24 to Sep. 25, 2022.
Mills River- Rodney William Latta, age 74, peacefully entered into his place in paradise with his Lord and Saviour, on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.

Rodney was born February 18, 1948 to the late Billy Wiley Latta and the late Nancy Ruth Hopkins Latta. He was a native of Lee County, NC and had made his home among the mountains that he loved most of his life. Mr. Latta retired after a dedicated career in sales with Old Dominion Freight Lines. Fontana Lake was one of his favorite places to spend time fishing and Rodney also loved visiting the beach and being close to the ocean. Both were special places that brought happiness, peace and solace into his life. Mr. Latta was of the Baptist faith and was indeed a man with a giving heart. In the words of his family, "He was willing to give the shirt off his back," always there to help anyone. His great love and concern for his dogs was evident to anyone that knew Rodney and they brought great joy into his life. Rodney William Latta will forever be remembered as an amazing father and man. We give thanks for his life and what he has meant to each of us.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Latta Brock.

Surviving are his son, Jeremy Latta of Charleston, SC; a sister, Debra Latta Davidson and Mike of Swannanoa; his former wife, close friend and mother of his son, Joy Kaufman Latta of Hendersonville; three nephews; one great-niece; one great-nephew; and his special pit bull dog, "Huckleberry" that will miss him greatly.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Rodney will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Biltmore Church of God, 1390 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC. The family will be receiving friends at the church from 10:30 until 11:00 am prior to the memorial service.

To honor his love of animals, memorials made be made in Rodney's memory to Blue Ridge Humane Society, 88 Centipede Lane, Hendersonville, NC 28792.
