Jean Parris Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crawford / Ray Funeral Home on Feb. 26, 2026.
A beloved and dear lady, Jean Kinsland Parris, passed away on February 21, 2026. We give thanks for the 86 years of her full and wonderful life.

Jean was born on January 6, 1940, in Haywood County to the late Russell Kinsland and the late Leila Blythe Kinsland. She had made her home in Haywood County all of her life and graduated from Canton High School, where Jean made many friendships that she has treasured all of her lifetime. Following her graduation, she entered into the medical profession, training as a radiology nuclear technician at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta and also at Duke University. Jean later attended Mars Hill University, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree. During her working career, she was employed at Memorial Mission Hospital, Haywood Regional Medical Center, and Highlands -Cashiers Hospital. Jean was also an instructor at AB Technical College, teaching radiology technology, and was greatly admired by her students.

Jean was the founder and director of the program, "Drugs in Our Midst", a program dedicated to educating community leaders, ministers, teachers, students, and parents about the serious issue facing our county regarding substance abuse. This became a true passion for Jean- devoting her time to sharing guidance for these challenges. Jean had a great love for beautiful flowers, especially lilies that she planted and tended in her yard.

Her faith was the foundation of her work and her daily life. A dedicated member of Canton First Baptist Church, Jean was actively involved in all church activities and ministries. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and always being concerned about others. She will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her daughter, Tammy Parris Evans of Canton; her grandson, Tyler Evans; her sisters, Margaret Edwards (Alvin) of Greenville, SC, and Mary Kirkpatrick (Riley) of Wilmington, NC; also a special gentleman, Patrick Jackson who has been a part of Jeans's life for 30 years.

To honor Jean's request, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canton First Baptist Church, 208 Academy Street, Canton, NC 28716, or Sunny Point Baptist Church, 132 Sunny Point Drive, Canton, NC 28716
