James Alvin Parris, born on June 14, 1941, in Jackson County, departed this world on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, in Asheville.
James proudly served his country during a pivotal time in history. He enlisted in the United States Navy and later transitioned to the United States Army, serving honorably in Vietnam. His commitment to his country not only marked a significant chapter in his life but also exemplified the values of duty and sacrifice.
He is survived by his children, Julie Brooks and her husband Tim, and Sandusky Parris and his wife Carson; his grandchildren: Isaac Brooks, Loy Parris, and Sabine Parris; sisters, Karen Saunders and Patricia Parris; and by several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
James was preceded in death by his parents, George Curtis Parris and Margaret Bryson Parris, as well as seven siblings.
A private service will be held at the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Military Funeral Honors provided by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard.
