Jon Cameron Moyle passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on February 21, 2026 in
Tallahassee, Florida. He was 91.
Jon was a devoted family man, a deeply caring force for good who greatly valued helping others and always was willing to fight for a just cause. He had a commanding presence, loved to laugh, and was quick to share his warm infectious smile.
He was born on May 26, 1934, in
Columbia, South Carolina, to parents Martha Cameron Moyle and Paul Othneil Moyle. After growing up in West Palm Beach and graduating from Palm Beach High (Class of 1952), Jon attended Duke University (Class of 1955). Following graduation, he married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Jean Kyle Martin Moyle, only days before departing to Quantico, Virgina, for training and service as an officer in the Marine Corps. Following honorable military service as a Marine captain, he attended the University of Florida Law School, became a member of the Florida Blue Key leadership organization, led the 1960 Homecoming celebration, and later received the University's Distinguished Alumnus Award.
Jon started his involvement in state politics as a legislative aide for Governor Farris Bryant, working in Tallahassee to advance the Governor's legislative priorities. He played an active political role for most of his life, serving in such key positions as State Democratic Party chairman during the administration of Governor Reubin Askew. Jon also served on the 1977-1978 Constitution Revision Commission and the Florida Board of Regents, including a term as chairman during Governor Lawton Chiles' administration. He remained politically active throughout his distinguished legal career, with countless local, state, and federal officials seeking his counsel and support throughout the years.
Jon and Jean relocated from Tallahassee to Palm Beach County in 1964. Jon became a pillar of the community and founded the well-regarded Moyle, Flanigan Law Firm. He enjoyed a successful law practice in Palm Beach County and Tallahassee for 55 years. During that time, he handled many important cases. He notably represented Palm Beach County teachers during their 1968 strike, which led to state constitutional changes that established collective bargaining for teachers. He also played an instrumental role in enshrining Florida's Sunshine Law in the state constitution, which ensured government transparency for years to come.
Jon was a member of the boards of directors for Barnett Bank, Palm Beach Atlantic University, and the Kravitz Center. He was a founding member of the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches, the Community Mental Health Center and was a long-time key adviser to Good Samaritan Hospital. After retiring, Jon and Jean moved from Palm Beach County to the Florida Panhandle to be closer to their grandchildren.
Admired for his involvement, integrity, and advocacy for those without a voice, Jon helped those in need and generously provided guidance and counsel to friends and family. He threw the football and baseball with his kids after work, enjoyed evening walks with the family along Lake Worth bike trail, and made attending his children's softball and football games a top priority. He loved fishing, skiing, animals, and boating in the Bahamas, where he was often heard in his booming voice issuing commands to the family "crew" to "hold it off" when docking.
Although he enjoyed a successful career in law and politics, Jon always considered his greatest accomplishment to be his marriage to Jean and his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Paul Othneil Moyle II, and his wife of 68 years, Jean Martin Moyle. He is survived by his children Jon Cameron Moyle, Jr. (Serena), Julie Moyle (Kelli), and Jim Moyle (Robin). Known as "Gaga" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he is survived by grandchildren Marie Moyle (Mathew), Jon Cameron Moyle III "Jack" (Nikki), Marshall Moyle (Aidan), Lila Moyle and Ava Moyle, and great-grandchildren Maude Moyle, Louise Moyle, George Moyle Tooker, Jon Cameron Moyle IV "Jon Jon," and Zoe Moyle.
