Bustelo, Angel M.

99, formerly of Tampa, FL passed away on Feb. 16, 2026, in Tallahassee, FL. He was born on Aug. 2, 1926, to Jose and Maria Bustelo. He was a veteran, drafted into the Army during WWII (1944), interrupting his high school career to serve. Upon completion of service, he returned to high school where he met his future wife, Alice Pia, and later married in 1952. He graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1948, earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Tampa and Master's from the University of Florida. He had a long career in the Hillsborough County School System, first as a teacher and later, 30+ years as Supervisor of Foreign Languages.

He was predeceased by his parents, Jose and Maria Bustelo; his siblings, Margaret Hansen, Joe Bustelo, Azucena (Susie) Fidalgo, and Estella Gatliff. He is survived by his wife, Alice; daughter, Karen Lakin; son-in-law, Robert Lakin; grandchildren, John Lakin, Jue and Jim Lakin; great-grandson, Connor Lakin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He wore many hats in his life: veteran, educator, dancer, jokester, golfer, Gator fan, Tampa Rough Rider, world traveler, horse lover, poet, and an avid storyteller who loved a good cigar, a scotch and water, and a fierce round of cards or dominoes. Yet, he would best like to be remembered as a Palmetto Beach boy with family ties to Asturias who deeply loved life and his family. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
