Rodney R. Libby February 3, 1946-December 14, 2025
Rod Libby, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home on December 14, 2025, after a battle with dementia.
Rod was born in Milwaukee and lived there his whole life. He met Mary Peplinski while delivering flowers to St. Luke's Hospital, where she worked as a receptionist. He asked her out on a date, and they quickly realized that they were meant for one another. They married, started a family and shared a wonderful adventure that lasted almost 55 years.
He spent his life in service. Rod was an Army Reservist and a former Milwaukee Police officer for 33 years. His favorite police jobs were radar car, driving the mobile command van and riding a golf cart at the Milwaukee County Zoo. After retiring from the Police department, he was a driver for Med Speed delivering medical supplies. He was a devoted husband, proud father and a fun grandfather. He loved all the family gatherings, especially playing games with the grandchildren. He also loved following sports. His favorites were the Brewers and the Packers. He enjoyed going to games, watching them on t.v., and listening to them on the radio.
His love of music- especially "the oldies" was a bonding experience for him and his children, and later his grandchildren. There are many memories of singing along while driving. His many road trips with his family were his passion. He always did all the driving and had a great knowledge of map reading. He was a humble man and would help anyone- especially with directions.
Rod is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Alberta (nee Keeney) Libby, brother Gary, his two best buddies- Michael Schroepfer and Joseph Peplinski and two bright stars and angels Barbara Peplinski and Rachel Libby.
Rod is survived by his only love and best friend Mary. His children Chris (Steve) Scherf, Debbie (Jim) Briggs, Steve, and Jackie (Jesse) Gumm and grandchildren: Ethan, Abby, Alice, Connor, Emma, Carter, Owen and Libby. They were his joy and passion. Rod will be remembered fondly by extended family and friends.
A very special Thank you to Rod's sister Michele (Tom) Roberts and sister-in-law Theresa (Michael) Schroepfer for helping with his care while in hospice. Special thanks also to Aurora hospice and St. Luke's ICU and Emergency Departments.
Rod lost his way to the Lord when his mom died, but he met Mary and they began their adventure that led him back to the Church and the Lord above!
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, at DIVINE MERCY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 800 Marquette Ave. South
