Rodney Reinhold Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 1, 2025.
Affectionately known as "Rocky," passed away peacefully at the age of 96 after a long and well-loved life.

Born in Westfield, MA, Rocky grew up on Prospect Hill and left school early to support his family. At age 50, he proudly earned his GED-one of his greatest personal achievements. He met the love of his life, Virginia Hempel, at a church picnic, and they married on Flag Day, June 14, 1952, beginning more than seven decades of love, family, and adventure.

In his early 30s, Rocky joined the Air National Guard, rising from the motor pool to Fire Chief of the 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes Airport. He served with distinction during the Berlin Crisis in France, where he also discovered a passion for skiing. A true builder and leader, he was a Scout leader, camper, gardener, photographer, and boater. His later years included traveling the U.S. with Virginia, discovering dark craft beer, and volunteering with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, where he earned the Achievement Medal for Superior Performance of Duty. He adored animals, especially his cats and beloved dog, Lily.

Rocky leaves behind his wife Virginia, children Rodney Jr. (Natalie) and Paula (David), grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Arlene.
