Anthony Foster

Anthony "Tony" Foster, the eldest of seven children, was born December 19, 1943, in Newark, New Jersey to the late Branford Foster and Lillie Mae Dennis. The family later relocated to Brooklyn, New York, where Lillie Mae and his father, the late John Edward Blount raised Anthony and his siblings. Anthony received his formative academia by attending Automotive High School, and yet, the irony, Anthony never drove. After completing his education, Anthony commenced his career with the United States Postal Service. In 1966, Anthony married Wylene Roberts, and from that matrimonial union, where they were blessed with one daughter, Adrian. In 1980, Anthony served as a member of Mt. Holly Lodge, Chapter 520. After becoming widowed at a young age, Anthony met Thomasenia "Paulette" Buchanan. On August 30,1992, Thomasenia and Anthony joined in holy matrimony. In the mid-1990s, Anthony joined Glorious Trinity Baptist, where he was baptized by the late Rev. Dr. Harvey P. Jamison of Brooklyn, NY. After 32 years of service, Anthony retired from the USPS, where he later settled in Springhill, Florida. Anthony faithfully fellowshipped with New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, under Pastor Freddie Hinson Jr. Anthony was an active member of the Kingdom Men's Ministry at New Hope. He was also a member of the African-American Club of Hernando County for 15 years. To know Anthony is to love Anthony; his big smile would light up any room. Being a man of so much character, Anthony had many nicknames. Growing up in the primary years, Anthony earned the name "Pork Chop". At the beginning of his employment at Brooklyn GPO, Anthony was called "Tony the Tiger" and years later, he was often appropriately referred to as "Mr. Congeniality". His grandchildren lovingly called him "Pop Pop". The latter years, Anthony was often referred to as "Poopsie" and "Pretty Tony." Anthony was so full of life and he lived it to the fullest. Anthony loved life and loved people. He enjoyed family gatherings, attending church, travelling abroad, venturing to concerts, theatre plays, and special events Anthony got involved with community affairs as well as supported and mentored to the youth. Anthony was a great connoisseur of fashion, music of all genres, and had satiable palette for fine cuisine. He was true avid watcher of Turner Classic movies. Anthony was a free spirit, who was always willing to listen and give sound advice and encouragement, always lending a helping hand and being there in time of need. Anthony was a such true gentleman with style and exquisite class, but most of all, respect. After a brief illness, Anthony made his transition on September 25, 2025, surrounded by wife, Thomasenia, Pastor Freddie Hinson, First Lady Leslee Hinson, Deacon Richard Marcus and Deaconess Virginia Marcus. Preceded in death are his brothers, Roger and James Jamison, sister, Marie Young, his son, Frederick "Dougie" Starkes, his granddaughters of the Republic of Panama, Melissa and Cherany Cumberbatch. Leaving to cherish his memory, his wife Thomasenia Foster, daughters, Adrian Cumberbatch (Roger) and Yolanda Jack (Sean), both of Brooklyn NY, his brother Johnny Blount (Linda) of Charlotte, North Carolina, sisters, Tina (Glenn) Williams and Lisa, both of Brooklyn, NY, (27) grandchildren and (20) great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
