Rodney B. "Rod" Schwendiman, age 73, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, in the Divine Care Facility at Schoenbrunn.
Born June 25, 1952, in Dennison, he was the son of the late Howard and Clara (Cattani) Schwendiman. Rod graduated from Indian Valley North High School and went on to study at Kent State University, earning an associate's degree in business. He wed the former Theresa Ann Tedesco on June 18, 1978, and the couple shared very nearly 39 years of marriage prior to Theresa's passing on June 13, 2017. Rod was employed by Huntington Bank in New Philadelphia for 43 years, retiring in 2018.
Rod was a member of St. Joseph Church in Dover. He was a good husband and enjoyed spending time with his extended family - he and Theresa having no children of their own - particularly with his great-nephews, Blake and Breckin Bigler, to whom he was like a grandfather. Additionally, he was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers, and Guardians.
He is survived by his sister, Diana (Dan) Hobart of Uhrichsville; his nieces and nephews, including Shelly (Brian) Bigler and Shawn (Terri) Dudziak; his great-nephews, Blake (Brooke) and Breckin (fiancée, Lydia Frank) Bigler; his brothers-in-law, Fred (Becky) Tedesco, Terry Dudziak, Bob Jones, and Joseph Tedesco.
Besides his parents and his beloved wife, Theresa, Rod was preceded in death by his sister, Patsy Carlisle; his brothers, John and Mike Schwendiman; and his sisters-in-law, Christine Dudziak and Josephine Jones.
Honoring Rod's wishes, he will be cremated, and a public graveside service will be held in St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery in Dover, the date and time of which will be announced on this website.
Contributions in Rod's memory may be made to St. Joseph Church, 613 North Tuscarawas Ave., Dover, Ohio 44622.
