Rodney Scott Smith, Sr., 59, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on November 16, 2025. He was born in Menominee in 1966 to Helen Viola Williams and Harold William Smith, both of Cedar River, MI, and was a long time Menominee resident.
As a child Rodney loved spending time with his friends at Dubey Park and the Marina. He enjoyed pulling motors, creating one-of-a kind creations and scrapping with his brothers. He liked to go fishing and to the casino. He also enjoyed listening to a good tune from Hank Williams, Jr., George Jones, Alan Jackson, Johnny Cash or Ozzy. Spending time with his son, Rodney, riding their bikes with Avie Girl and going on adventures truly made him happy. He enjoyed blowing glass.
Rodney attended Menominee Area Public Schools then adventured with the Skerbeck Carnival where he met the love of his life, Susan (Suey) Young of Escanaba, MI. Then life began, creating a family he always dreamed of. He was a self-taught Glass Artist, creating one-of-a kind art.
Rodney was preceded in death by his love, Susan (Suey) Young; his mother, Helen; father, Harold; a sister, Linda Schultz; three brothers, Leonard (Butch), Dennis and Jeffery; and a brother-in-law, Paul (Tucker) Tanguay.
He is survived by two daughters, Rebecca (Vinnie) and Kayla Smith; one son, Rodney, Jr.; three grandchildren, Klayton Baumler, Klegan Smith and Marlie Kay Smith; two brothers, Harlan and Randy Smith; two sisters, Bonnie Carlson and Dixie Tanguay; a brother-in-law, Wes Carlson; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; great friends and his dog, Avie Girl.
Visitation will be at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home in Marinette on Monday, December 1, 2025 from 2 p.m. until the time of a memorial service at 3 p.m. Following the service there will be a gathering and reception at The Schooner in Menominee.
