Rodney B VanGundy, Sr. 75 of Bainbridge, went to be with his Lord, Monday, October 13, 2025, from his home while surrounded by family. He was born Thursday, February 9, 1950, in Ross County to the late Willis George and Flossie Eudora (Cooper) VanGundy.
On August 9, 1968, he married his wife of 57 yrs, the former Deborah K. Dotson, who survives. Together they have two children Suzy (Pete) Ward of Bainbridge and Roddy (Melody) VanGundy of Wilmington; and five grandchildren Ian Ward, Callie (Simon) Baker, Luke, Mia and Willow VanGundy. He is also survived by his sister Ann Eiring and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Rodney was preceded in death by eight siblings, Earl, Leroy, Roger and John VanGundy, Leila Henderson, Mary Jarrels, Opal Maughmer and Carolyn Rumfield; his father and mother-in-law Charles and Mary Dotson and special friends Jack and Dorothy McCloskey.
Rodney was a member of Storms Chapel Church for 47 years where he held several offices including first elder for 43 years. He was a 1968 graduate of Paint Valley High School, and he was employed at Chilpaco mill for 44 years where he retired as a maintenance mechanic.
Being a horseman was a big part of his life; he established VanGundy Stables breeding and training facility alongside his family. He was very proud to stand stallions Leo Tag Cody and Sunfrost Bronsin for over 30 years. He was also a lifetime member of the AQHA.
Rodney loved spending time with God and family; he also enjoyed trail riding and hobby farming.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 pm Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Storms Chapel Church on Spargursville Road with Rev. Sammie Cooper officiating. Following the service Rodney will be laid to rest in the Twin Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 12:30 – 2:30 pm at the church on Saturday.
