Obituary published on Legacy.com by Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home Inc - West Nyack on Mar. 19, 2025.
Rodolfo S. Balingit of Spring Valley, NY passed away peacefully on October 21, 2024, in his home surrounded by his family. He was a beloved figure in his community, known for his infectious smile and warm heart.
Born in Macabebe, Pampanga Philippines, December 5, 1934, he was the son of the late Valentin and Maria (Sangil) Balingit.
In 1974, following a long 20-hour flight, Rudy set off on his first international trip to New York City with their 7-month-old daughter, where his wife, Leona, who had gone a couple of months earlier, awaited their arrival. He took pride in becoming a U.S. citizen, working hard to achieve the American dream of owning a home and raising a family. He fully embraced his role as a New Yorker and developed a passion for all NY teams, especially the Knicks and Yankees. He resided briefly in New Jersey, Queens, and Westchester before finally settling in Spring Valley, where he lived for the past 38 years.
Rudy had a passion for fishing, often spending weekends by the water, enjoying the peace and calmness it brought him. He believed in the value of self-sufficiency, often tackling home repairs and projects with his own hands, believing that if he could do it himself, he would. He loved cars and would often spend time working on and maintaining them. Rudy also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, as they kept his mind sharp.
Rudy's love for cooking was matched only by his love for family and friends. His kitchen was a hub of warmth and hospitality. He cherished the moments spent around his table where he brought people together, especially his grandchildren to share food, stories, and laughter. These lasting memories brought him great joy until his final days.
Rudy was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Leona B. Balingit. He is survived by his three daughters and eight grandchildren: Rexy Bianco and husband Gerald, and their children Christian, Abigail and Jackson of Summit, NJ; Rosalie Castaldo and husband Thomas, and their children Liana, Nicholas and Luca of Tuxedo Park, NY; and Rachel Balingit and husband Andrew Palm, and their children Madeleine and Leo of White Plains, NY. In addition, Rudy leaves behind several nieces, nephews and special friends, many of whom are lifelong.
Rudy will be sorely missed by all of those who loved him.
To honor and celebrate his life there will be a viewing Thursday October 24, 2024, from 4pm to 8pm at Joseph W. Source Funeral Home 728 West Nyack Road,
