It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Roena Woodruff Baggett, who departed this world peacefully on December 18, 2024, at the age of 69. Born on April 26, 1955, in Odessa, TX, Roena was a loving daughter of Fred Woodruff and Vera Montgomery. Though her family moved to Lindsey and Duncan, Oklahoma, they eventually called Monahans, Texas, their home—a community that Roena cherished dearly.
Roena's life was marked by perseverance and determination. After graduating from Monahans High School in 1974, she began her journey of motherhood alongside her first husband, Bill Thurman. Together, they welcomed three beloved sons, John, Carl, and Joshua. Tragically, Roena experienced the heartbreak of loss when Bill passed away. In a testament to her strength, she pursued her passion for nursing, enrolling in the first LVN class in Monahans. She graduated with honors, Summa Cum Laude and Cum Laude, proudly serving her community as a dedicated caregiver.
On May 25, 1998, Roena found love again when she married Johnie Baggett. This union not only brought her joy but also two bonus children, Brandon and Skylar, and together they rejoiced at the arrival of their daughter, Kaylee. Roena’s family also included treasured bonus sisters Ruth, Louise, and Dixie, who brought her much happiness throughout her life.
Roena embraced life with warmth and humor. She had a passion for crocheting and an innate love for engaging in heartfelt conversations—never gossip, only genuine connections. A lover of Coke Zeros, coffee, and the color purple/lavender, Roena enjoyed singing and expressing her creativity through drawing. A diehard Dallas Cowboy fan, she embodied a spirit of loyalty and tenacity.
Roena was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Theresa and Fred Mc; and her first husband, Bill Thurman.
She leaves behind a beautiful legacy cherished by her devoted husband, Johnie Baggett; her six children, John and his wife, Mindy, Carl and his wife, Jenny, Joshua, Brandon and his wife, CorrieLee, Skylar, and Kaylee and her husband, AJ; her adored grandchildren, James, Clara, Faith, Samantha, William, Lanie, Rhylann, Bristol; and her brother, Eldon.
In honor of Roena’s life, a viewing will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her enduring spirit and cherished memories. The service will be officiated by Pastor Jeppie Wilson. Roena will be laid to rest following the service at Monahans Memorial Cemetery.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at MCH for the compassionate care provided to Roena in her final days before God called her home.
