Roger Ackerson, 70, of Warren, IL, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 8, 1955, in Hazel Green, WI, to Marie and Bernard Greene. Roger married Laurie Keuter on November 27, 1976 and together they had three children- Steva (Aaron) Miller, Roger (Bruiser) Ackerson Jr, and Cassie Ritch.
Throughout his life, Roger worked in construction for Tricon Construction Group until 2014. For many years he served the Warren community as a volunteer firefighter. He later decided he could not just sit at home and went to work at the Warren Schools for several years, where he shared his gardening tips and home-made horseradish. If you could not catch him in the school cafeteria being a papa to his grandkid's friends, you would find him driving his wife nuts by going to every auction he could.
Roger found joy in gardening, mowing his yard, collecting coins and tractors for his grandkids, along with his pocketknife collection! He also enjoyed watching his grandkids play while he sipped his Old Mil, sometimes you could even catch him joining in on the fun with the grandkids. He shared his love for gardening and lawn mowers with his grandkids, spending multiple evenings in the garden picking tomatoes, cucumbers or giving his grandkids rides on his mowers.
Roger is survived by his wife Laurie and their three kids; nine grandkids- Hayden, Katie, Ethan, Erik, Gavin, Annie, Myles, Conner, and Lucy; sisters- Judy (Ron) Weinen and Diane Paxton, multiple nieces, and nephews.
Roger is preceded in death by Marie and Bernard Greene and George Paxton.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 11:00am -2:00pm, at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home in Warren, IL.
A luncheon will follow the visitation at the Pecatonica Tap House in Warren, IL.
A memorial has been established in his name.
