Roger Arbogast Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 10, 2017.
Roger Lee Arbogast was born at his grandmother's house in Dixon, Illinois, on June 1, 1932. He passed away in Puyallup, Washington on October 10, 2017. Lee was the 4th of 9 children born to Lloyd and Lois Arbogast of Iowa. He was raised in Coppock, Iowa and joined the Navy at 18 years old. He served for 4 years as a cook and baker on the USS Princeton in Korea, Bremerton, Washington, and California. It was in Bremerton, Washington in the spring of 1954 that Lee was set up on a blind date with Sheila Lundin. They married six weeks later on April 4, 1954. They were married for over 63 years. In the summer of 1962, Lee and Sheila adopted their only child, a daughter they named Gail Lynn. Lee was in the trucking industry for 40 years, working as a driver, a dispatcher, and a terminal manager. Lee was preceded in death by his mother, father, and 5 of his 8 siblings, Max, Wilma, Larry, Bob, and Karen. Lee is survived by his wife, Sheila, his daughter, Gail, his grandson Shane, his 3 remaining siblings, Ray, Jean, and Dan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Plans are to have a military funeral at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington followed by a celebration of life and, next spring, to spread some of his ashes at the elk camp where, for decades, he spent a couple of weeks every fall hunting with and cooking for his friends. Dates for these events are not yet set.

I shall never forget Lee. He was such a gentleman. Always ready to help or advise when needed. (He always remembered and had my burger or hot dog just the way I like it at our BBQs.) A really thoughtful man. I am richer for having known Lee. Thoughts and prayers for Sheila andiHWgT Gail.

I have known Lee for over 40 years. I looked forward to his arrival at elk camp every year. He always had a smile for everyone, that accompanied his grumpy gravely voice. He was a great man and his heart was as big as he was. And what a camp cook! His Thanksgiving dinner was something to behold. I know there will be so many folks who will miss him dearly. I am proud to have known him. I send my thoughts, prayers and sympathies to the family and his friends. May the good Lord grant him eternal rest and peace to all of you.
