Roger Dale Baker II, age 55 of Shelby Gap, KY, passed away on Friday March 6, 2026. He was born in Akron, Ohio on November 11, 1970. He is survived by his loving wife Regina Lucas Baker of Shelby Gap, KY; one stepson Lucas (Samantha) Simpkins of Dorton; and three grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Kamden, Karleigh and Kyndall; his mother Margaret Hammonds of Whitesburg, KY; his father Roger Baker also of Whitesburg, KY; one brother Tyler (Kim) Bentley of Lexington, KY; and two nieces Claire and Ellie of Lexington, KY.

Roger was a proud military veteran having served his country in the U.S. Army from 1991-1998. He received an Honorable Discharge after achieving the rank of E4 Army Medical Specialist. While in the military he received the Army Achievement Medal (3 times), Army Superior Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (2 times), National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Badge M-16 Rifle, and Air Assault Badge. He has a 1 mile section of highway dedicated in his honor on Little Colly at Isom, KY where he spent some of his childhood years.

After leaving the military, Roger attended nursing school at Southeast Community College at Cumberland, KY and received his RN degree in May of 2000. He worked for many years as a Registered Nurse at Hazard ARH and as a travel nurse at several hospitals.

Roger always loved the outdoors. In his earlier years he liked to spend time fishing and boating. In later years he took yardwork seriously, especially his new leaf blower. He not only would blow the leaves from his yard but also from all the neighbor’s yards.

His kindness and generosity will always be remembered. He was loved beyond words by his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be Sunday March 8, 2026 1:00pm to 2:00pm at the Lucas and Son Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be start at 2:00pm with Neil Coleman Officiating.  Burial will follow at the Sam Lucas Cemetery at Big Shelby. Military rights will be conducted by the Johns Creek DAV Chapter 166.
