I never met Roger, but heard much about him, as long ago as 1971-72 when I was in the 8th grade at Sellman. That would have been the same year Roger graduated from Madeira High. For some reason I thought of him tonight, I have no idea why. To say Roger was an accomplished athlete would be a big understatement. His combination of size, strength, and speed was unbelievable, especially for the time. Just going by memory, but at around 5'10" and 210 pounds, he ran 100 yards in 10.1 seconds on a dirt track, and would perform bench presses for reps with manhole covers on the bar. He was a legend in Madeira, and that's no exaggeration. Years and years ago I ran into someone who played quarterback on the Madeira team Roger was on. I can't recall his name, it was just a chance encounter, but he went on and on about how strong, fast and explosive Roger was. The thing I remember most is how he talked about Roger being so explosive that as soon as the ball was snapped, he would have to turn instantly to hand the ball off to Roger, because Roger would just explode out of his stance, and be at the line pretty much instantaneously. If he didn't turn right away Roger would fly through the line, and he would miss the handoff. Anyhow, don't know why I thought of Roger tonight. Sounds like he found his faith, and he's in a peaceful place. Dave Hunt Madeira High School Class of 1976.

Roger was like a brother to me! We met each other our freshman year at the University of Cincinnati.
