Roger Blanchette, born on December 13, 1935, in Fall River, MA, passed away peacefully in Weymouth on December 11, 2024. He lived a life rich in service and love, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by his family and friends.
A proud veteran of the US Army Artillery, Roger dedicated many years to his country. Following his military service, he embarked on a successful career with United Airlines where he retired, leaving behind a reputation of professionalism and dedication.
In addition to his professional achievements, Roger was a committed volunteer, giving fifteen years of service with Meals on Wheels at South Shore Community Action. His contributions to the community were profound and deeply appreciated by those whose lives he touched.
Roger was known for his vibrant personality and zest for life. A member of a walking club and a bowling league, he embraced the joy of physical activity and camaraderie. He was also fluent in French, which enhanced his travels around the world, fulfilling his dream of experiencing various cultures and landscapes. Additionally, his creative pursuits as a part-time florist reflected his appreciation for beauty in nature and his love for bringing joy to others.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice Blanchette (Long). Roger is survived by his son, Roger D. Blanchette of Weymouth, and his girlfriend Ana Gomez; his daughter, Ann Mazzarella of Halifax, and his late son-in-law, Michael J. Mazzarella. As a grandfather, he took great pride in his grandchildren: Christina Lonergan of East Bridgewater and her husband Casey Lonergan, and Michael G. Mazzarella of Whitman and his fiancée Kara Garland. He also delighted in being a great-grandfather to Casen, Cullen, Michael Jr., Cora, Joseph, Andrew, and Jameson, who brought immense joy to his life.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Roger's life during visitation on December 16, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Keohane Funeral Home, located at 785 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA. A funeral service will be held the following day, December 17, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the same location.
Roger Blanchette will be remembered for his unwavering love for family, his commitment to service, and the joyful spirit he brought into the lives of all who knew him. He will be greatly missed but fondly remembered.
