Roger Frederick Bley, age 89, beloved husband of Edna Williams Bley, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Hospice House.
Born on August 24, 1935, in Johnston City, Tennessee, Roger was a son of the late Rudolph and Mary Bertha Smith Bley. Roger pursued higher education at the University of Tennessee, where he studied law and was admitted to the Tennessee State Bar in 1958. He proudly served his country as an assistant Judge Advocate in Japan in the United States Air Force. After his service he worked as a patent attorney for Beaunit Corporation. He later attended medical school earning his MD in 1967 from University of Tennessee Memphis. He enjoyed a distinguished career as a radiologist, dedicating 45 years of service to Self Regional Medical Center, where he was known for his compassionate care and dedication to his patients.
His family was the foundation of his thriving spirit. An avid reader and skilled woodworker, he found joy in renovations and pursuing creative projects that brought warmth to his home. His love for travel took him to the mountains and beaches he adored, particularly Fripp Island and Gerton, NC, where many cherished memories were made with family. He was a member of First Baptist Church and also attended North Side Baptist Church. He will be dearly remembered by his family and friends for his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Allen; mother and father-in-law, Glenn & Louise Williams; brother and sister-in-law, Bill & Margaret Beets; sister-in-law, Jean Pruner; and daughter-in-law, Bett Bley.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are his children, Cindy Ray, Mary Fulmer (Michael) and George Bley (Melissa); brothers-in-law, Ed Allen (Donna) and Jere Pruner; grandchildren, Alyson Ray, Zackary Ray, Sam Fulmer, Sophie Fulmer, Margaret Ridgeway (Ben), Isabel Richardson (Andruw), Durham Bley, Forrest Green and Saige Green; and great grandchildren, Wynn Ridgeway and Bett Ridgeway.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Dr. Jeff Lethco officiating. Burial will be private at Oakbrook Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends before the service at funeral home from 1-2:30pm.
