Mr. Roger Edward Bogle, 60, of Woodbury, Tennessee passed away on January 20, 2026. He was born on October 11, 1965, in Woodbury, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Don “Donnie” Bogle and Rilla Sue “Susie” Davenport Bogle.

Survivors include aunts, Dean Vantrease and Paulette Campbell, uncle, Burley Bogle, numerous cousins and friends.

Roger was born an only child. That meant he had the full attention and love of his parents. They lived on a small farm where Doolittle Road ends and Pleasant Ridge Road begins on the family homeplace. While not far from town it felt very far out in the country. Growing up his grandmother, Lena better known as “Nanny” was a big part of his life. She made sure to spoil him rotten and had ample opportunity since they all lived together. He kept a close relationship with his mother and Nanny their whole lives.

His mother was a Christian lady who taught Roger the fear and admonition of the Lord. His grandmother had made a provision for a piece of family property to be used for building the Sunny Hills Church of Christ. It was almost in sight of their house. It was allowed to be used for the church as long as there were services being held. Several of the family took part in building process. His family would all attend church there together. Her guidance helped him to make the decision to be baptized. It took place in a very country setting at a well-known local spot in the Stones River at the “Slab” on Goochie Ford Road.

He had an easy-going personality, loved to joke, and have fun. He graduated from Cannon County High School with the class of 1984. Over the years he worked at Western Auto and Tilford’s Lumber Company. Roger inherited some of his father’s mechanical abilities. He was able to work on different kinds of equipment and vehicles. He liked being outdoors and working with his hands. Which helped lead him to a job in construction, building houses and installing vinyl siding. While not the easiest line of work due to environmental conditions and physical constraints, he liked being his own boss and going at his pace. His Facebook page carried his slogan for the construction business. It gives an insight into his sense of humor and personality. It reads “Build, tear down an rebuild whatever it takes to keep you an’ yours warm, cool and dry an’ her happy because if she's not happy, I'm not happy.” One of his favorite sayings was “I might have to grow old, but I don’t have to grow old.” He did his best to live his life this way.

Being fond of the outdoors, when he wasn’t working you would often find him at the lake. Kicked back with a fishing pole in his hands, camping, and hanging out with friends. He didn’t need much to keep him happy. He was able to enjoy the simple things in life. He often reflected fondly of a trip he took with his parents to Maggie Valley. One of the things he remembered specifically was the fact he could fish right off the deck at the place they stayed. Roger, for a good part of his life, had a dog to help keep him company. He enjoyed the companionship and unconditional love they gave. Riding a motorcycle was a great escape for him. The sound of the road and the wind blowing in his ears took his mind off things. He had a special artistic ability for drawing. It allowed him to be able to create all kinds of sketches. While he could draw anything, his favorite things were picturesque scenes from the country. Things like cabins in the woods, barns, and the countryside he grew up in.

Gentry-Smith Funeral Home will conduct a graveside service in the near future. He will be laid to rest with his parents at Riverside Cemetery. The date and time will be announced soon.
