Roger Borup of Cape Coral, Florida, a long-time resident of Wellman, Iowa, 87, passed away on June 3, 2025 in Fort Myers, Florida. Roger was born in rural Fulton, Illinois, September 26, 1937 to Harold LeRoy and Hazel (Kempf) Borup. After his father, Harold Borup died, Hazel married Chester L. Miller and the family lived in the Wellman area. Roger graduated from Kinross High School and attended American Institute of Business.
On September 11, 1960, Roger and Patricia Lea Braymen were married in Wellman. They had two sons, Jeffrey Alan and Rodney Lynn.
Roger worked for Wellman Savings Bank for more than 37 years retiring in 1993 serving as Executive Vice President and Cashier.
Roger was commissioned in the Iowa National Guard and retired from the USAR in 1980 at the rank of Major.
Roger served in many capacities in the Wellman community including 15 years of coaching summer baseball and he was an active 50-year member in the Asbury United Methodist Church. Roger enjoyed tennis and flying. He held a commercial pilot’s license with multi-engine and instrument ratings.
Roger was particularly active in Rotary, serving as District 6000 District Governor in 1997-98. He also served as District Treasurer for 7 years and maintained perfect attendance from initiation for 50+ years. Following retirement Roger volunteered in the Habitat for Humanity headquarters in Americus, Georgia.
Patricia Borup died June 14, 2016. On February 8, 2017, Roger married Anna Higgins and moved to Cape Coral, Florida.
He is survived by son Jeff and (Pam), son Rod and (Ellen) and grandchildren, Brittany, Briana, Melanie and Victor, and one great grandchild, Aminata Kallie. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepfather and both wives.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Wellman on Thursday, July 3, 2025. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Thursday. Memorial donations may be contributed to The Rotary Foundation or Asbury United Methodist Church. Powell Funeral Home in Wellman is assisting the family with services.
