Roger Chivers, Jr., age 66, of Elizabeth City, NC, passed away on May 12, 2025. Born in Steubenville, OH on January 21, 1959, to the late Roger Chivers, Sr. and Maxine Baker Chivers, he was the husband of Barbara Jo Richards Chivers.
Roger retired from the U.S. Coast Guard as a rescue swimmer, a role he served with dedication and bravery. While his career was commendable, it was his personal life that truly defined him.
Roger's grandchildren were his pride and joy and he was often more like a father to them. Each moment spent with them lit up his world. A devoted family man, he found immense happiness in gatherings filled with stories and laughter. His beloved dog, Maxie, was a constant companion, sharing in both quiet moments and lively adventures. Known for his storytelling, Roger had a knack for weaving tales that captivated his listeners. One of his favorite pastimes was playing Mario Kart and riding his motorcycle.
In addition to his wife of 45 years, he is survived by his daughters, Mikaleen Jo Chivers and Shara Danae Chivers; grandchildren, Harley Annine Chivers, Luca Danae Brothers, and Lenin Roger Plata; sister, Sandy Corrigan; brother, Rick Chivers; in-laws, Charlotte Conner, Diana Brancker, Bob Richards, and Gary Richards; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dave Stine.
Roger's warmth, humor, and love for life will be missed by those who knew him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A memorial service with Military Honors will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Twiford Memorial Chapel, with Chaplain Kevin Reiver officiating. The family will greet family and friends for a visitation one hour prior to the service, in the chapel lobby.

I'm sorry for your loss. I met Roger at ATTC in Elizabeth City. He was always positive and friendly. He could tell a story or two for sure. It was my honor to have known Roger.
