Roger H. Crain, 79, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, at his home in
Johnson City, TN. Roger was born on April 1, 1946, in
Sylva, NC, to the late Herman and Sarah Norman Crain. He was a loyal husband, brother, uncle, and friend who left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known him.
Roger's journey through life was a testament to his unwavering faith in Jesus, his Lord and Savior, and his dedication to his family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 44 years, Dorothy "Sue" Livesay Crain, and 1 brother & 3 sisters, Donna Kelly, Norma Tester, Pat Crain, and Joan Crain.
Those left to cherish his memory are his brother, Gary Crain, and his sisters Rita Miller, Debbie Wilson, and Shelia Tester. He is also survived by a special niece, Tabetha Lambert, and several other nieces and nephews, whom he cherished immensely.
An astute Bible scholar, Roger dedicated much of his life to studying and imparting his knowledge of the scriptures. This dedication shone brightly in his commitment to the Upper Room Family Worship Center, where he not only served as the secretary but also as a Sunday School teacher, generously sharing his insight and faith with all those around him.
Prior to embarking on his civilian career, Roger proudly served in the army, where he demonstrated his unwavering commitment to duty and country.
Roger's professional life was marked by his impressive 35-year tenure with United Cities Gas, from where he retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.
Not one to sit idly by, Roger engaged in various interests. Known as a jack of all trades, he found joy in working with computers and repairing lawn mowers, his hands often busy with a new project. His gifts for troubleshooting and crafting solutions were paralleled only by his eagerness to help others whenever the opportunity arose.
Roger will be laid to rest at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 5th, 2026, at Snyder's Memorial Gardens, located at 5913 Kingsport Highway in
Gray, TN. Preacher Johnny Ward will officiate. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:45 PM for the procession.
Pallbearers will be Randy Miller, Leonard Nave, Ricky Tester, Tabetha Lambert, Gary Crain, and Christopher Crain.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Roger's name to Upper Room Family Worship Center, 2220 Midway St.,
Johnson City, TN 37601.
